As in: a thought is all it takes to see through the Conservative accusations that looking into the Afghanistan detainee issue is disrespectful of the military.
It is extremely disrespectful of the military to suggest that their conduct won't stand up to close scrutiny.
I for one think that our troops could not have acted differently given the abuses of power occuring higher up, they were denied the knowledge and ability to do the right thing. Did Generals act inappropriately? Possibly. Individuals make errors. The military heirarchy is as political as any other. Did our men and women on the ground enmasse commit war crimes? No one is suggesting that - except the Conservatives in order to cover up their own actions.
