The title of this post is the argument Jason Kenney used to justify Canada's new, bigoted policy of not allowing a veil to be worn during the taking of the citizenship oath. Today he applied a masterful stroke of doublethink, somehow managing to imply that freedom from (presumably the terrible tyrannies of a piece of cloth) was more important than freedom to (wear a piece of cloth as cultural/religious symbol of faith).
"This is a matter of pure principle," said Kenney, while attacking the freedom of religion and expression which serves as the very basis of Canadian culture. Apparently the Conservative party's "pure principle[s]" include intolerance for diversity. Surprise, surprise.
